Scotch Fillet voted New Zealand's favourite beef cut
Over seven rounds and more than 10,000 votes cast, the Kiwi public have made their views clear – scotch fillet has been voted New Zealand’s favourite beef cut.
Combining the tender, melt-in-your-mouth eating experience of eye fillet with the flavour of sirloin and rump, this revered cut hails from the lightly worked upper rib, with the marbling of fat through the meat making it perfect for searing.
Beef + Lamb Ambassador Chef Tejas Nikam, who has recently opened Paddock To Plate Waikato, a steak house in Hamilton, was quick to applaud Kiwis on their crowning of the cut.
“In the few weeks since we’ve opened, our Hereford Prime Grass-fed Scotch Fillet has become a go-to for our customers. For me, I like to pair it with a peppercorn sauce along with some steamed season greens and, as a treat, some twice-cooked fries.”
The crowning of scotch fillet follows on from earlier this year when lamb shanks took out the title of New Zealand’s favourite lamb cut. Rod Slater, CEO of Beef + Lamb New Zealand said he was personally very pleased with the result.
“As a butcher by trade, we never got to take home the nice cuts, they were always for the customers. I can tell you, there was never any scotch fillet left, especially if we had it on special.”
