KANTAR SURVEY HIGHLIGHTS STRONG NEW ZEALAND CONFIDENCE WITH BEEF AND LAMB NUTRITION
New Zealanders continue to view red meat as a core component of a healthy diet, according to the latest research. The tracking data by insights agency Kantar shows that 79% of New Zealanders agree that beef and lamb are nutritious foods that contribute to a healthy diet.
Overall agreement remained high at 79%, broadly in line with November 2025, however the proportion who strongly agree increased from 23% to 35%.
The findings come as GLP-1 weight-management medications begin to influence consumers’ choice of foods. By reducing appetite and total food intake, these medications are expected to place a higher premium on nutrient density and protein quality within smaller meals.
Julia Sekula, Head of Nutrition at Beef + Lamb New Zealand inc, says that the nutritional profile of red meat means beef and lamb is well-placed to meet the evolving dietary requirements.
"When total food intake decreases, ensuring that every meal is nutrient-dense becomes increasingly important.
"Lean beef and lamb naturally provide complete protein and highly bioavailable micronutrients, including iron, zinc, and vitamin B12.
"The Kantar data shows that New Zealanders already appreciate these nutritional benefits. As dietary patterns evolve alongside new health trends, it will be increasingly important that people have access to clear, evidence-based nutrition information to help them make informed food choices and maintain a healthy balanced diet."
As nutrition becomes an increasingly important driver of food choice, Beef + Lamb New Zealand remains committed to providing trusted, evidence-based information to help New Zealanders make informed decisions about the foods they eat.
